There was an eerie feeling last night at the Palestra, even before the game tipped off. Scanning the arena from press row, I saw completely empty sections in the second tier of the historic gym. Penn's cheerleaders moved their seats from the baseline to the front rows of the student section to fill the rows of sparsely-filled bleachers behind the basket.

The forthcoming discontinuation of 18 research specialist positions at the Penn Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology, which was announced last Friday, may stem from reasons other than the financial crisis.
According to several researchers who declined to use their names due to the situation's sensitivity, the economy's downturn is simply the trigger behind the changes, which they say are due to long-standing University and museum priorities that do not emphasize scientific and historical research.

It's not quite rotten, but something is definitely amiss about the state of the high rises. Between the 400 clogged-toilet complaints filed this semester and the long waits for broken elevators, students in the high rises are understandably frustrated and upset with Facilities Services right now.

"Change We Can Believe In" has become "The Clinton Administration: The Sequel." Only a few short weeks after Obama's election victory, many of his supporters are already scratching their heads. Instead of the cherished new kind of politics promised by Obama and so passionately desired by those who voted for him, the president-elect's new administration is shaping up to be a cabal of recycled Clinton-era officials shuffled around from post to post.

Thanksgiving was weird.
Many of us were home, content amidst our families and a constant supply of food and celebration. But the weekend was also marked by tragedy. Last Thursday, we first heard about the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Then on Black Friday, a temporary employee was trampled to death at a Wal-Mart in Long Island.

Home, family, friends and good food are all things that the average student gets to experience during the long college winter break.
However, my teammate and I only get to experience this in small amounts.
It is tough. I personally have not been back home since school started.

For my first two years here at MSU, I was a mostly contented denizen of Freeman Hall. Sure, there were problems, but I realized that no college dorm is going to be perfect.
At the end of my sophomore year, however, my friend and I decided that we wanted to upgrade to Russ Hall, a supposedly magical place where the floors are carpeted, the residents stay quiet and each room has its own air conditioning and heating unit.
