Students can get their teeth cleaned free or have them whitened for $40 at the Dental Hygiene Center in Penn Hall.

Few things in life are free, but there are some at Northampton Community College.
If you've ever tried to get a health physical, teeth cleaning, gym membership, tutoring, counseling or resume help off campus, then you know how much these services cost.
These are some of the services free to NCC students.
Students can get their teeth cleaned free or have them whitened for $40 at the Dental Hygiene Center in Penn Hall.
Students with a minor injury or illness can visit the Health Center, in College Center 120.
"First aid, health counseling, athletic physicals and health screenings for all fitness classes are among the free services," nurse Susan Frederick said. The center will give medications for a headache, indigestion and other minor illnesses.
Blood pressure monitoring, weight management and health education programs are offered throughout the year, Frederick said. Special clinics for physical exams and immunizations are provided as needed.
"The immunizations cost a small fee," Frederick said.
The Fitness Center in College Center 140 is also free to part-time or full-time students. It offers Nautilus equipment, cardio equipment and an aerobics room.
Also providing free service is the Learning Center in College Center 140. Tutors help students with reading writing and math walk-in tutoring. There is also subject tutoring and online tutoring as well as study groups.
Students with a paper they need double-checked for mistakes can bring it to the Learning Center; secretary Terry Brindisi said. "They would edit your paper."
The Counseling Department will help students deal with personal, drug and grief issues. "Two male counselors and four female counselors are available to help," secretary Maggy Romig said.
Preparing for the job world? The Career Service Center in College Center 348 will help students compose cover letters and resumes, or polish interviewing skills. The center maintains a list of e-mail addresses that provide job leads.
