Unfinished business is the motto of this years NCC Spartan softball team.
Following the 2003 state championship season, last year's Spartans fell in the conference semi-finals to eventual champion Lehigh Carbon Community College.
This year, Coach Sam Carrodo and his team plan to get back on top.
Last year the Spartans were 28-4 and co-champs of the SnowBird Tournament.
During Carrodo's eight years, the team has a combined 127-34.
Also, a historical highlight of the 2004 season was freshman Missy Bachert exploding on the scene by smashing 10 home runs.
In one year she set a new career record for NCC softball.
Now every one she hits this season will just add to her record.
Also leading last year's squad was pitcher Jen Davis, who posted a 13-1 record. Both Bachert and Davis were honored last year as members of the EPCC All-Conference team.
A solid core of returning players - Gina Renaldi, Chrysa Wassel, Crystal Hopping and "Toot" Meluskey - give the Spartans a strong group as they begin this season.
The Spartans plan on rounding out their pitching staff with freshmen Nicole Jenson and Robyn Carey.
The opening game of this year was scheduled March 9 against Division III Rosemont College followed by Division III Eastern University on March 16. Then, it's back to South Carolina, as NCC tries to duplicate last year's success in their second SnowBird Tournament appearance.
The home opener for the Spartans is March 29 versus PSU York.
And while the schedule has big games against Cecil Community College (Maryland), Cedar Crest College (Div. III) and Brookdale CC, Carrodo says the game he can't wait for is the April 23 tilt with Lehigh Carbon.
Not only will it be the Spartans' chance to even the score after last year's bitter defeat, it very well could determine the South Division title and seeding in the EPCC Tournament.
