With 4 wins standing between the kids from Colorado and a World Series Championship, the Cinderella team of the year has emerged.
With the brooms waving in the stands, Rock-Tober banners, and signs that say, "Is this Heaven? No It's Colorado." Its only right to reflect on how a small market team from Colorado is getting so much attention.
The last day of the season the Rockies needed to win their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but also needed San Diego to loose their game against Milwaukee, to even get a one-game-playoff.
That in fact did happen, and the Rockies took that game and won, making it the first time since 1995 that the Colorado Rockies made the playoffs.
The Division Series was not at all a rocky mountain for these Rockies. They ripped through the Philadelphia Phillies with the greatest of ease, not loosing a game in the best-of-5 game series.
That meant the Rockies just won 17 out of their last 18 games.
The kids from Colorado set an MLB record by posting a 98.925 fielding percentage in 2007. With that came flawless October baseball. Countless 2-out-hits and just hard-nose baseball.
Now in a best-of-7-game series, the Rockies continued to embrace the Cinderella role by winning the first three games. Taking a strong 3-games-to-none advantage over the highly favored Arizona Diamondbacks.
Tonight was going in the Rockies direction with a 6-1 lead after a 4th inning 3-run home run by Matt Holiday, but in the 8th Arizona made a surge in the right direction. With 2 on and 2 out Chris Snyder hit a 3 run shot of his own and brought the score to 6-4 Rockies.
The ninth inning was in no way a 1-2-3 inning. While the Rockies closer Manny Corpus got Jeff Salazar to ground out easily for the first out, Chris Young hit a double down the left field line making it a game in the ninth.
Stephen Drew popped out to 2nd base, giving goose bumps to the goose bumps on the Rockies necks during an already chilly 45* night.
