NCC radio broadcasts reach their audience, the entire NCC community, through a newer medium - the Internet.
By accessing the link on the NCC Web site, located under the Around Campus menu, users treat themselves to music, spoken word pieces and poetry readings created by NCC students and staff.
Communications professor Donna Acerra says the Radio Workshop class creates the bulk of the content for NCC radio.
The students produce the shows before they run, none of the programs are live she said.
"Everything is looped through iTunes," says Acerra, sitting at a computer chair in the Radio/TV lab in Communications Hall.
The lab houses 20 iMac computers, complete with production software for both radio and video programming.
NCC Radio/TV student Trevor Charity says the programming on NCC radio is good for a college radio station.
Charity describes a variety of music programs found on the NCC radio loop, from rock 'n' roll to pop to classic delta-blues - he says the "sky's the limit."
Acerra says by using iTunesU the radio station can add podcasts that users download when they want.
"People can listen on demand," Acerra says.
The Radio Workshop class assignments typically end up as programs on the station.
"Right now they're [the students] highlighting a program or major on campus," Acerra says.
College majors assigned to students come to life with interviews of staff, students and other faculty members. The Radio Workshop students recorded sound-bites during the interviews.
"We have these great new microphones to get the clips for the programs," Acerra says.
Charity adds that the production software on the computers lets music and other sound effects to a vocal track.
