Lipstick Jungle is NBC’s newest attempt at capturing an audience waiting for a hit. The series’ pilot episode begins with the three main characters making The New York Post’s list of New York’s 50 Most Powerful Women. Brooke Shields plays Wendy Healy, a hard-ass film executive balancing work, family, and marriage. Kim Raver plays Nico Reilly who works at a popular magazine and also deals with the demands of marriage. Lindsay Price plays Victory Ford, a fashion designer who used to be on, top but is now struggling to pick herself back up. After impressing viewers with an all-female power trip, the show takes a sexy turn in the right direction, because when I think of a hard-working, powerful woman, I wonder what she looks like stripping a gorgeous, muscle toned man.  The real life conflict finally begins about 15 minutes from the end of the episode when Wendy’s husband feels like he’s less of a man because Wendy is writing all the checks. Nico feels as though her husband doesn’t give her enough attention and she begins to feel lonely. Victory is dealing with the pressures of coming out on top in the fashion world while juggling the advances of a wealthy love interest. Many critics are comparing Lipstick Jungle to Sex in the City in areas such as fashion, steamy affairs and even the characters themselves, and not really giving Jungle the chance to show its stuff.  Overall, Lipstick Jungle is an entertaining way to spend a Thursday night and only makes a viewer sympathetic and teary-eyed for a total of 30 seconds. The other 59 minutes and 30 seconds is spent either making viewers laugh or speeding up their heart rates. Make sure to catch new episodes of Lipstick Jungle on NBC every Thursday night at 10 p.m.
